Location: Located at 17 Harding Ave, Terre Haute, IN 47807, between Terre Haute City Hall and Vigo County Courthouse
Turn to the River is a multi-phase project of Art Spaces to reconnect downtown Terre Haute to the Wabash River through public art and design. The first phase of the project, the revitalization of the government plaza between Terre Haute City Hall and Vigo County Court house, has been fully revitalized and is now home to the sculpture Turn to the River by Dallas, Texas-based artists, Brad and Diana Goldberg. The sculpture offers a strong example of the collaborative work of Brad and Diana, who fuse sculpture, landscape, and the built environment into remarkable and inspiring visual and spatial experiences. Drawing on each of their individual strengths – Brad’s in sculpture and landscape architecture and Diana’s in painting, printmaking, and graphic design – they have collaborated as a team for four decades and this sculpture, designed for this important public space in Terre Haute adds lasting meaning and beauty for everyone to enjoy.
As a finalist Brad had visited Terre Haute and was captivated by the architecture surrounding the plaza and the formality and broad use of the space. He was also impressed with the proximity of the city to the Wabash River and its vast natural wetlands on the west side. Working together, Brad and Diana captured the defining character of the Wabash for Terre Haute and Vigo County, and have given residents and visitors a unique work filled with cultural meaning and engaging visual, audio and tactile elements.
