Art Spaces Announces Major Grant From Terre Haute Casino Resort Foundation

DATE: January 15, 2026

Terre Haute, Ind. - Art Spaces - Wabash Valley Outdoor Sculpture Collection, Inc. is excited to announce a significant grant from the Terre Haute Casino Resort Foundation to be applied to Phase II of their Turn to the River project. A portion of Phase II was completed in 2025. The next portion, an event space, is currently in Design Development. Design work is led by Taylor Siefker Williams Design Group and is nearing completion. Construction of Phase II, called The Gathering Space, is anticipated to begin in 2026. Art Spaces’ work on Turn to the River and their fundraising efforts have drawn major federal, state, regional, and local support since 2013. An early champion of creative placemaking, a process that involves residents getting involved in designing the public places that they use, Art Spaces is a proven leader locally in building collaborative partnerships to improve quality of place and encourage economic development. Turn to the River is completely transforming the City/County government campus as well as providing an inviting and walkable link between downtown and the Wabash River. Active and ongoing community involvement and strong partnerships with government play a key role in helping organizations throughout the U.S. to engage the power of the arts to transform communities.
Art Spaces director, Ellie Templeton shared that “Our community has truly embraced the Turn to the River project and riverfront development efforts in our
region. The momentum is exciting and Art Spaces is proud to be a sustained stakeholder in this effort and to continue to work with community partners to see even more progress. This support by the Casino Foundation is a testament to their confidence in this project and the value of high quality public spaces. We  are excited to move toward implementation of The Gathering Space in 2026.
She added “We are aware that the Foundation received many worthy requests for this inaugural grant cycle and that their decisions are difficult. We are truly honored by their confidence in the vision and the accomplishments of Art Spaces and are thrilled to receive this funding.
