Art Spaces and City of Terre Haute to Relocate Beloved Max Ehrmann Sculpture
DATE: January 2, 2025
Terre Haute, IN- January 2nd, 2025- Art Spaces, Wabash Valley Outdoor Sculpture Collection, Inc. and the City of Terre Haute announce that the beloved sculpture Max Ehrmann at the Crossroads by artist Bill Wolfe, located on the corner of Wabash Avenue and 7th Street in downtown Terre Haute, will be relocated. Max will be moving to his new permanent home in the sidewalk bump-out area on the east side of 7th Street directly across from the Swope Art Museum. Max’s move is a result of the construction of a new hotel coming to the downtown space where the sculpture currently resides.
The City of Terre Haute and Art Spaces have been working closely with Land Stewards Design Group and Bill Wolfe to design a beautiful, new, and inviting space that will continue sharing the legacy of Max Ehrmann and his sculpture. Max will be in storage for a short amount of time while the space is being designed and built, but will return downtown as soon as possible.
Poet and philosopher Max Ehrmann, a lifelong Terre Haute resident, is known throughout the world for “Desiderata,” and other poems. He often wrote near the corner of 7th and Wabash, the “Crossroads of America,” where he drew inspiration from the sights, sounds, and people of Terre Haute. Art Spaces and the City of Terre Haute are pleased to have Max’s new home be so close to the “Crossroads of America”, and are excited to see the new space come to life.
